CoD: MW3

MW3 supports dedicated servers on PC! Supposedly the way it used to be with CoD4 servers. We'll see...

RE: CoD: MW3

I just saw this yesterday as well, and I am very happy to hear this is going to be the case. I am curious to see the resource usage in comparison to BF3, as right now BF3 is one of the most resource hungry games we have encountered.

RE: CoD: MW3

Probably the same as CoD4. Damn near the same networking code. No crumbly bits to keep track of, forget just sheer playercount.

But if that's actually true, wow. I wouldn't think Kotik would approve something like that, simply because it lessens the amount of money he can squeeze out of the playerbase.

RE: CoD: MW3

Kotik wants to see if the player based will increase. If it does, and he sells this one the way he did on MW2, he won't mess with the formula again. They didn't have to do any "work" at this point, the game was built on the same engine.

RE: CoD: MW3

I just read they will only have server files for unranked servers only.

Only Activision could get away with the lies they tell once again. No servers, no game.

There's good and bad with this.

Bad: People like to rank up and earn unlocks and they won't be able to do that on dedicated servers.

Good: A server admin will be able to control which unlocks/perks are available, making it very customizable. Modded servers will be more popular, because with previous released you had to decide between a ranked server or a mod server.

Personally, I am still on the fence about MW3. I am leaving for Florida tomorrow and won't be back for a week, so that will give me time to look at reviews and figure out if I should bother with it when I get back. If I decide while I'm away that I want the game, I can remote into my home PC and get it installed for when I return.

RE: CoD: MW3

Anyone have a link to a decent list of all things dedicated server MW3?

Any word on if XF will have the MW3 files available, if not already?

Personally, not getting it. Last one was Black Ops, skipped MWII, I'm more into BF and BF3 has me HAPPY right now.

But if some of my members want it, I at-least need to know I can get something up for them.

RE: CoD: MW3

You should already have it on your list of games that you can install. I had this finished and setup this morning, but keep in mind the installer package is like 7GB so it takes a while.

As far as all things MW3, its basically just a server.cfg with a few settings and a map list file. Not much more to it than that.

I just hit lvl 20 on the Multiplayer and its basically exactly the same as every other COD game's multiplayer. I just bought it so I could help troubleshoot customers servers, then wound up playing it during my break.

Is the MW3 servers ranked or unranked???? If we had a mw3 server would players still keep there rank and unlockes they earned in our server in others??????

RE: CoD: MW3

Dedicated servers for MW3 are unranked. Only matchmaking is ranked. This gives the server admin the ability to configure what unlocks and perks are available to their players.

RE: CoD: MW3

Do you have any of the setting to change maps or kits. The server.cfg file is minimal and lame.

No ranks are maintained and everyone has a basic 5 kit pack to choose from.

If you can list the proper cfg files for changes, it would be appreciated.
